Sending audio thru S/Pdif of 2488 neo to Audio interface with S/Pdif in

Hi.Im looking for some advice.Ive been recording with a 2488 neo for years but I'm getting ready to jump into full scale DAW recording.My question is ,can I send audio thru the S/Pdif out of the 2488 to the S/Pdif in of my audio interface?My intention is to use the 2488 as a sub mixer and record any line level signals(keys and maybe guitar)to the the interface.The interface that im contemplating is the 3rd gen Focusrite 8in6 ,which has a S/Pdif in and out.Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
