Hello musician friends, I hope you are well.:D
On this track: "Blessed are those who mourn" I used the Tascam DP 32sd's multiband compressor for the first time, and I was quite surprised by the difference in sound quality; I really learned something with this and will use it more often in the future.;)

Sound is an experience, not just a theory: the funny thing is that I unintentionally pressed the "Multi" button and thought "wow!! This is better!", and then I tried different settings until it worked for me.

I don't know if the use of the multiband compressor is obvious to you when listening, your musical ear is more experienced than mine.

New synthesizers played here: the Roland JD xa, and the Behringer Monopoly (the roaring baaaaass!)

I hope you like it, have fun with your music and God bless! :)

Chris

Chris, I gave a quick listen, and it sounds very good to me. The best mastering compression is so subtle it enhances the mix, but only the mastering engineer knows it's working. ;)

It's getting late in my slice of the world. I'll give a critical listen tomorrow. Just wanted to share my first impressions.

Christophe, it sounds pristine per your usual SOP. Nice to hear the real thing - synths being played by a person in real time. Nice work!

Hi Mark, MJK, and thanks so much for the feedback: :) I like the phrase "The best mastering compression is so subtle that it improves the mix, but only the mastering engineer knows it works." ; and yes MJK, it's a lot of joy to play the whole piece in one go, without re-recording like I did before.;)

Hi Chris. I had a chance to watch/listen again, and really enjoyed the video and the composition.

Comparing this recording to those you've posted previously:
The levels are very similar (between -15dBFS and -14dBFS).
I am hearing a difference in the dynamic range between this and your previous works, which of course is due to the mastering compression you've applied this time.

Just some things to keep in mind going forward. I think this composition stands very well on its own merit.

Good morning Marc. I sincerely thank you for taking the time to listen to the song, especially since it lasts 14 minutes;)! I know we don't have much time so I thank you. I will continue to use this compression method which seems to suit me. Thank you again and good luck in your projects!:)

I don't hear compression like I am used to hearing it.
Everything sounds open and clear to me as if there is no compression.
But the music doesn't have many or any hard transients that typically need to be compressed.
What are you trying to achieve - more visible quiet sounds?
Nice chill track.

Hello Manslick and thank you for responding. :)

That's it, I just wanted to make the weaker sounds more visible.
The soft atmosphere is preserved but we don't hear overly compressed music.

I'm glad you think it's a nice chill track.;)

Thank you again and I wish you good success in your projects.
