Hi
Does anyone know of a way to midi sync a keyboard with USB 2.0 to a drum machine with dins - without using a DAW etc.?

I’ve heard a little about USB Midi Hosts like Kenton and Nektar, though not enough to be sure they’re the answer.

Any advice is very welcome !

It would help if you told us what that keyboard is, since there are different implementations possible with USB. But in most cases you will need a USB MIDI host..

Thanks for your post.

It’s a Casio CT-X3000 and the drum machine is an Alesis R16.

Can you recommend a make/model of a decent USB Midi Host?

MIDI 4x4 and MIDItrix software.

Not so much choice, I found, in these standalone USB MIDI hosts.. And quite expensive too. Apart from the Kenton you mention I found the Bome BomeBox and one from Miditech (not too bad for €79). Depending on your location, this one also may fit the bill (they all do the same after all): https://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/usb-midi-converter

I have this one: MIDI 4X4-MIDIPLUS. @Bugatti, since one of your devices does MIDI over USB, using this interface will put your DIN connections on the PC also, through USB. This device does not have any pass-through or any connections at all, so you need to install something like MIDITrix (free). Once setup, it works perfectly.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, all the options are expensive, but if that’s what it takes .....!

@-mjk- I think you missed the requirement of matching these devices without a PC. For that a USB MIDI host is needed, and this one is a MIDI interface. There are way more of those available..

@Arjan P Thanks - I need a USB Midi Host not an Interface!

Will now choose between the Miditech and Hobbytronics options — thanks for that — and not the über expensive BomeBomeBox. They all do the same job, as you say.

Ooh, I thought he meant not a with a DAW.

Yep, as I’m not using a DAW, I’d need a USB Midi Host - not an Interface in this case.

@Bugatti are you not using a DAW, or not using a computer altogether?

I dislike ambiguity....
