Friends,

We are working on songs for our next album, and we are working separately because of the pandemic, and I need your help. I read the manual and searched and could not find the answer.

We recorded a song and I mixed it down on the DP-24SD. I pulled the card and copied the .Wav file and sent it to our guitarist. He is going to open it is audacity and work on leads. The goal is for him to send them back and I import them into the DP-24.

I have the sampling rate of the song at 44100 Hz at 16bit, but I need to know what bit rate the native wav file would/should be, my app Amadeus Pro says NA. Is there anything else I need to tell him, so that when he sends me a file I can upload it using the audio depot? I have never done this but it is important I master this so we can move forward safely.

Our last album was picked best heavy metal album of 2020 by multiple magazines and websites so we are experiencing a bit of a comeback, so this is important to the band at our age!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Rob

44.1 kHz at 16 bits already IS a bit rate: 1411 kbps - with a stereo file, that is. This is what Windows will show if you right click on a .wav file, select Properties and then the Details tab. (unfortunately Windows only shows bit rates and no longer sample frequency and bit depth). Or easily calculate it yourself: Sample Rate (kHz) x Bit Depth x #Channels - 44.1 x 16 x 2 = 1411.2.

Arjan,

Thanks so much this is new to me. My file was stereo of the basic track, but I want him to send me mono tracks so I can mix them in, what should I tell him half that amount, 44.1 x 16 x 1? Of course I have a mac and he is a PC guy. It says in the manual the files have to be the same specs to import. I assume if I can upload the track will it line up if neither of us edited the start time? He will be playing along with the WAV file I sent him.

I really appreciate your help!

Sounds like you may run into similar issues as you had last July with importing wav files.

The Equipment Related Tips thread sticky-pinned at the top of the first page of this forum has information important / critical to successful file Import/Export.

Check the index in the first post of that sticky thread to see the post #s that have relevant information.

The Basics:
  • You must use Audio Depot to Export and Import individual Tracks to be sure you keep everything in sync.
  • The Tracks you Import must have the same Sampling Size and Bit Rate that you set for the DP-xx Song when you initially created the Song on your DP-xx.
  • The Tracks you Export, and the Stereo Master file created when you do a Mixdown, will have the same Sampling Size and Bit Rate that you set for the DP-xx Song when you initially created the Song on your DP-xx.
When your guitarist opens the Stereo Master you sent him, he needs to be sure Audacity is configured for the same Sample Size and Bit Rate.

When your guitarist exports his tracks from Audacity, he needs to be sure the individual mono tracks have that same Sample Size and Bit Rate so you can Import the tracks to your Song on the Dp-xx.

The other important / critical details are in the sticky posts. No need to repeat here.
