Welcome to the forum snappy. The machine will be ok - just restart the format process (do a full format to be sure) and all should be fine.
The various warnings about powering off correctly, or powering off before removing the card etc. are all to do with protecting the card's integrity. The card contains numerous files and bits of data which are dependent on each other, and the internal computer can update these at ad-hoc times.
So if you pull the rug from under its feet while it happens to be writing to one of these, that part will be incomplete, and you may also prevent the computer updating related files so they become out of step with each other. The impact depends on what was happening at the time - sometimes there's no problem, sometimes you just lose a recording or a setting for the current song, other times the card becomes completely unreadable.
By the way, re. the "please delete" post - you should be able to delete your own posts. There should be a set of 3 commands at the bottom of your posts: edit, delete, report - so just click delete.
