I have a FW-1884 which I had planed to use as a midi controller. In Midi CTRL mode, it generates midi messages as listed in the "Default Midi Controls" document but I can't get it to do anything in response to a message on its midi inputs. If I plug a midi out into midi input #1, I see the #1 LED (near the route button) light up but nothing else happens.
Can you control the LEDs and Fader position via midi?
